How We Measure Up

We've been learning how to compare length (longer/shorter) and measure the length of objects with informal units (such as: pop sticks, matchsticks, counters and paperclips).
We made play dough snakes and compared their size to find the longest and shortest. We then worked out how many matchsticks long the snakes were. We made sure there were no gaps between our sticks.

We used wool to compare our heights and order from tallest to shortest. We then measured our wool lengths with pop sticks.
We used our bodies to measure the length of the classroom. We had to use the same student when measuring to keep it accurate.
We used paperclips to measure objects.
We used cubes to measure objects. The hammer is 8 cubes long!

Mother's Day Activities

We have been very busy this week with Mother's Day coming up.

We read 'My Marvellous Mum' and wrote about our own marvellous mums.

We wrote messages to our mum and placed a picture of ourselves holding the message in a jigsaw picture frame.
We decorated cards with our hands and fingers to make flowers and wrote in the cards.

On  On Thursday, we invited mums to a pamper session. The turnout was terrific! We painted portraits of our mums, decorated cupcakes, painted nail polish on our mum's nails, massaged their hands, made necklaces, had our photos taken with mum in the photo booth, read mum books and served slice and teacup biscuits that we made with tea and coffee.

Everyone from Room 4 wishes their mums a very happy Mother's Day!
