Welcome back to Term 4

Wow, we've only one term left of the year! It's going to be a busy one. We are going to look at Aboriginal dreamtime stories, and celebrations as our main focus.

We will also prepare to transition into Year 1 this term. Firstly, we will no longer do shared fruit, instead we will retrieve our own piece of fruit from our lunch boxes and eat that at Recess. Towards the end of the term, we will experience eating and playing with the Year 1s and 2s. Finally, there will also be an opportunity for us to experience Year 1 through a visit and activities.

We welcome new students to Room 4. Last term Olivia joined us and this term we welcome Paige. In addition, Kyron has returned. We now have 24 beautiful students!

Community Helpers Dress Up Day

We concluded our term's focus on community helpers with a community helpers dress up and picnic. We've enjoyed learning about community helpers!

Donnybrook Excursion

As part of our focus on community helpers and history, we went on an excursion of Donnybrook's community with Rooms 2 and 3. We took up two buses, mixed groups and visited a number of places around Donnybrook.

 

We went to the local museum where we saw a lot of old things.

Getting arrested

We had a tour of the post office and learnt how the mail gets sorted.

Our last stop was the famous Apple Fun Park.  

 We had such a good time (even though the weather wasn't the best) and we thank the parent helpers and Donnybrook community for such a great day.

Father's Day

We love our dads so this week we have been celebrating fathers.

We read many books about dads this week. One of our favourites was 'My Dad Thinks He's Funny'.

In preparation for Father's Day and to celebrate our fathers, we participated in many activities this week. We made rocky road for dad, painted coffee mugs, wrote about what we love best about our dads, made ties for our dads to wear and invited our dads to a Father's BBQ Evening.

 

The evening was a huge success and a lot of fun. We did many things with our dads. Some of the activities were: sharing stories about dads, making handprints of our hands and dad's, painting a portrait of dad, constructing wooden creations, having our photos taken at the photo booth and shaving our dad's faces. We also enjoyed a drink and a sausage sizzle.  

 

We wish that all the dads had a happy Father's Day! 

Ambulance Visit

The Ambulance visited today!

The ambulance arrived with flashing lights and siren!

National Book Week

This week is National Book Week. In Room 4, we participated in Book Week by reading a book a day from this year's shortlisted books, focused on one book,  joined in with the whole school to share in a variety of activities, individually voted on our favourite book and dressed up as our favourite character from a book. We had a great time!

Our focus book was 'Parachute'.  A parachute is the first thing that Toby puts on each morning. It gives him the courage to deal with all kinds of tricky situations, such as getting out of bed, sliding off a chair, and riding his bike. But sometimes someone else's troubles can be greater than your own, and this is what Toby discovers one day. This is a powerful and fantastical story about a fearful child finding his independence.

 After our reading of 'Parachute', we played with a parachute.

Dress up for Book Week

 Batman was there.

 This was very creative, a stuffed rabbit was cut up and stuffing removed and made the perfect Peter Rabbit.

ECE staff came as characters from 'The Wizard of Oz'.

The staff of Treendale PS made an effort to dress up too!

The Police Visit!

To kick off our focus on community helpers this term, we had a visit from the Police! We had a police officer talk about what a police officer does, how to become a police office, road safety, police equipment and when and how to call the police. We also went into the police car, saw the flashing lights, tried on police jackets, belt and hat.

Fire Engine Visit

 We had a visit from Eaton - Australind Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service!

The fire fighters teach us some fire safety tips. We are very attentive.

A fire fighter in his full dress. We know that there is a man under this mask and that if we are ever confronted with this sight during a fire, we know not to be afraid and that the firefighter is there to help us.

We practice drop, cover and roll. If you're ever on fire, you need to drop to the ground, cover your eyes and roll. This will help put out the fire and could save your life!

100 Days Smarter!

Since we've been in Pre-Primary, We've become 100 days smarter! We celebrated our 100th day of school with some fun activities in the classroom and around the school.

We did a lot of counting this week. Counting lots of collections of 100.

 

100 farm animals were counted.

 

We counted 100 buttons.

100 shapes.

We had enough magnetic letter to make a collection of 100. 

100 rocks.

100 rolling marbles.

At the end, we made a display of our collections of 100. That's  a lot of counting!
