Fire Engine Visit

 We had a visit from Eaton - Australind Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service!

The fire fighters teach us some fire safety tips. We are very attentive.

A fire fighter in his full dress. We know that there is a man under this mask and that if we are ever confronted with this sight during a fire, we know not to be afraid and that the firefighter is there to help us.

We practice drop, cover and roll. If you're ever on fire, you need to drop to the ground, cover your eyes and roll. This will help put out the fire and could save your life!

100 Days Smarter!

Since we've been in Pre-Primary, We've become 100 days smarter! We celebrated our 100th day of school with some fun activities in the classroom and around the school.



Class photo in front of our 100 room divider and wearing our '100 Day Smarter' hats. Our hats each had 10 strips of hair, each decorated with 10 decorations, equalling 100 decorations altogether! We are growing knowledge!



100 sweets to help celebrate this milestone. We could also look at it as 10 groups of 10!

We did a lot of counting this week. Counting lots of collections of 100.

 

100 farm animals were counted.

 

We counted 100 buttons.

100 shapes.

We had enough magnetic letter to make a collection of 100. 

100 rocks.

100 rolling marbles.

At the end, we made a display of our collections of 100. That's  a lot of counting! 

Pyjama Day

Pyjama Day was a lot of fun. We all came to school dressed in our pyjamas! We gave a gold coin donation towards SIDS for Kids. Our school raised more than $250!

Lapathon

Pre-Primary joined in with the whole school to participate in Lapathon. We helped raise money for the school and had a lot of fun doing so! As a whole school, we raised an incredible $6501.15! Thanks for all the support.

Every Thursday afternoon, we've been combining with Room 3 to participate in a variety of fun activities.

Exploring Capacity

We started our exploration of capacity by reading, 'Mr Archimedes' Bath' by Pamela Allen.

 

Every time Mr Archimedes had a bath with his friends, the water overflowed and there was less water left in the bath. Somebody must be responsible and Mr Archimedes tries to find out who. Was it Kangaroo? Or was it Goat or Wombat?

 

 

Mrs Walker was very thirsty, which container should Mrs Walker drink from? The small cup? The tall glass or the fat one? How can we find out which one holds more?

Some Children chose the glass because it was 'taller' and some chose the tin because it was 'wider'. We had to work out which holds more, but how?

Some suggestions for finding out which container holds more included: putting them next to each other, filling them both up with water, pouring one into the other and placing a stick in each container of water and marking the level.


 

We found out that by pouring one container of water into the other, we could determine which holds more or less.

Exploring Mass

In Room 4, we've been comparing objects to decide which is heavier and lighter. Firstly we learnt to heft (holding objects to judge weight) to compare objects. Secondly, we created our own balance with a cylinder and shoe box to determine which objects were heavier or lighter. Finally, we used a set of scales to compare our objects.

11th June - Comparing the weight of objects, "The play dough is heavier than the container. We will have to remove dough to come to the same weight."

11th June - Comparing objects, "The container of beans is lighter than the jar of paperclips."

11th June - Comparing objects according to weight and trying to balance the scales by increasing/decreasing the quantity of play dough.
